On January 2021, Covid-19 in Indonesia disrupted a lot of job opportunities including online motorcycle drivers known as Ojek Online or Ojol. Although a lot of people started to shift to online services to buy food, people reluctantly avoid getting out of their houses which decreased the Ojol income as their services are not limited to food deliveries. Therefore, these Ojol are having a hard time gaining their regular incomes.
With this in mind, BantuYuk decided to invite young people around Jakarta to volunteer and become agents of change. All of the volunteers are given a sum amount of money through an e-wallet, then they are tasked to order food from small local restaurants which are also affected by the pandemic condition. Afterward, the food ordered will be given to the drivers.
“I always feel helpless knowing that there are a lot of people out there who are not as blessed as I am yet they work so hard just to get ends meet. However, it is not possible if I have to help them directly due to the situation. So, I’m excited that I’m able to lend a hand to the people who are affected the most during this time through this project!”
